The University of Twente has an educational programme that sets high demands for educational spaces. UT’s educational activities are very diverse: one can think of lectures, tutorials, assessments and more, both live and online. These methods of education require facilities, either in at a physical location or at an online location.
The University of Twente offers centrally or faculty-managed ‘educational facilities’. The resources that are managed and scheduled centrally are called Collective Educational Facilities (CEF).
In recent years, the number of students and employees at the University of Twente has grown considerably. This has put pressure on the educational facilities that are available. The programme Collective Educational Facilities aims to improve the quality and quantity, availability and usage of these facilities by drawing up an integral and/or interdisciplinary approach in optimising educational facilities, in co-operation and co-ordination with the faculties.
This approach includes the following strategies:
- Integrated and interdisciplinary co-operation of three service departments in the field of education;
- Development of education in relation to Shaping 2030;
- Optimising the use of resources; functional design of real estate for UT’s community within the scope of LTSH, Shaping 2030, and expected growth of student population;
- The combination of, and interaction among, online and on campus educational activities, timetabling and facilities;
- Developing a policy on the quantity and quality of educational facilities.
