The new agreement lets corresponding UT authors publish Open Access at a 100% discount in more than 2000 Elsevier journals. It is the first national Open Science partnership worldwide.
The Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU), The Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centres (NFU), and The Dutch Research Council (NWO) jointly entered into this new agreement with Elsevier. The agreement lasts until the end of 2024, and comprises reading and open-access publishing on the one hand, and open-science services for research intelligence and scholarly communication on the other.
Reading and open-access publishing
The new agreement covers reading rights for UT authors. On top of that, corresponding UT authors who submit an article to one of the 2224 journals that are part of this agreement can publish their article open access at a 100% discount.

Open-science services
The agreement parties will jointly develop new open-science services for disseminating and evaluating knowledge. Their participation in pilot projects will allow them to tailor the services to the needs of the Dutch research institutions and to support the broader ambition of public engagement with science.
