The Faculty Council represents employees and students within the BMS Faculty and plays an active role in faculty policy and decision-making.
What does the Faculty Council do?
As a participatory body, the Faculty Council works together with the Faculty Board to promote transparent, inclusive, and effective faculty governance. As an independent and critical voice, the Council is not afraid to challenge decisions, play the role of devil’s advocate, and encourage open debate to ensure different perspectives are taken into account in decision-making. The Council consists of both students and employees, reflecting the shared responsibility for the faculty’s development and the well-being of its community. Depending on the topic, the Council provides advice to the Faculty Board or grants formal approval on key matters.
The Faculty Council discusses and helps shape important faculty decisions. For example, the Council:
- Advises the Faculty Board on faculty policy and strategic plans
- Reviews and discusses the faculty budget and annual plan
- Has a say in education-related regulations and quality assurance
- Represents the interests of both students and employees
- Raises concerns and proposes improvements on behalf of the BMS community
- Discusses topics such as teaching, research, staffing, facilities, well-being, and student support
- Monitors how faculty policies affect students and employees in practice
- Maintains close communication with the University Council on matters of shared interest and university-wide developments
