RUrban Futures Collective are Planting Seeds this springWe have some exciting public gatherings coming up this spring at the Rurban Futures Collective! On March 10, 2026, we welcome dr Marinke Steenhuis for a talk where she will take us back in time, exploring interactions between humans and the landscape through archival material, to develop alternative farming futures beyond the nature-culture divide. You're welcome to join us on campus or online.
In April, we'll welcome many inspiring practitioners & scholars for talks, conversations and walks at the Science & Technology Studies (STS-NL) conference - where we're specifically looking forward to our track on Rural-Urban Knowledge Infrastructures for Transformation. And on May 21, our colleague Tamalone van den Eijnden will share insights from her research in conversation with Voedselpark Amsterdam and others, presenting outcomes from the BioTraCes project. We're also looking forward to welcoming Wapke Feenstra for a public keynote.
As a transdisciplinary collective of researchers at the University of Twente exploring the interactions between rural-urban spaces, practices and imaginaries, in 2026 we focus on ‘planting seeds’ for biodiverse and just futures. Through this research project funded through the Dutch Research Agenda (NWA) green route, we're working with Stichting Creative Coding Utrecht and Tetem in Enschede to rethink and prototype libraries for biodiversity justice. We ground our work in our local context in Twente, exploring past and present practices, spaces and imaginaries of commoning in the local landscape. And we ask: what (knowledge) infrastructures are needed for local initiatives to inform wider societal transformation?
Whether you're in or outside of academia, if you're curious, you're welcome to join us for these gatherings! You can reach out to Catherine Koekoek for more information.Read more
