thursday, november 6 @ designlab
In times like these, we need to come together as an academic research university. This conference is about connections - among BMSers, between teaching and research, and with societal partners. This special day will be filled with opportunities for research-related community-building, through a variety of session formats, operating within a lean budget.
abstracts received
Regardless of career stage, scope of inquiry, or role in the research process, we encourage all interested BMSers to share their research (-related) work. These could include experiences, findings, strengths, struggles, questions, convictions, or more. Research work can be shared through papers, posters, round tables, workshops, demonstrations, ask-the-expert(s) sessions, or symposia. BMS colleagues were encouraged to submit their abstracts by May 15. In total, more than 85 abstracts were received.
The abstracts are presently being screened but not reviewed. While there will be no formal proceedings, the abstracts will form the basis of a digital document summarizing the event. There are no strict formatting requirements for details such as paper length, poster format, or roundtable visuals. Contributors are encouraged to shape their sessions in ways that invite win-win benefits, i.e. informative for the receivers, and amenable to constructive feedback for the contributor(s).
Participation | Type | Description | Examples |
Audience floats between concurrent offerings in one area over the course of 45-90 minutes | Poster | Poster presentations showcase a project, program, process, activity, or similar experience in a visual and interactive setting. | Sharing work methods or new projects |
Roundtable | Roundtables are designed for small group discussion of specialized topics, with the presenter leading the discussion. | Planned interventions, early experiences or initial results
Demo | Demos provide an opportunity to explore high-quality examples of research innovations (e.g. apps, equipment, protocols, instruments). | Administrative systems, headmounted displays (google glass) or learning support software
Ask-the-expert(s) | These sessions offer walk-up Q&A or helpdesk services centered on a theme of expertise. | Administrative procedures or theoretical perspectives, methodological guidance
Audience stays together in one area for the course of 45-90 minutes | Workshop | Workshops are intended to provide professional development opportunities that result in participants acquiring new skills. Workshops last 45 minutes in most cases (though some may become 90 minutes). | Use of AI, healthy habits or project management |
Symposium | Symposia are curated sets of three or four contributions (e.g. papers or posters) centering on a shared theme. The set is presented and discussed in +/- 45 minutes. | Within research themes or across research themes (work pressure, data analysis, wearables)
Paper | Papers are presented in traditional stand-up sessions with a focus on sharing information. Multiple papers are presented in one time slot, with each presenter having +/- 10 minutes each. | Project experiences from any stage of conception, implementation or field testing |
