Venture Class

Discussion chaired by Aard Groen

The venture class on 13 October will begin with pitch sessions by teams from DELITELABS. DELITELABS aims to encourage entrepreneurship in areas with high levels of youth unemployment and among disadvantaged young people, such as refugees. Eighteen refugees are currently taking part in the DELITELABS programme in the Netherlands. The University of Twente has invited the participants to attend the DesignLab for a week, where they will be assisted with the development of prototypes for their products and services. The teams will pitch their ideas. This session has two goals:

1.To provide feedback to the aspiring entrepreneurs in the realization of their new ventures

2.To create regional awareness of the socio economic impact of such programs

The final objective is to set-up EREI, the Enschede Refugees Entrepreneurial Initiative, which is a joint venture project between DELITELABS and the PC3 team of the University of Twente. DELITELABS has been nominated by Duurzame Dinsdag (Annual Dutch sustainability prizes where initiatives get presented to the Dutch cabinet).

DELITELABS is also the nominated charity for the NIKOS anniversary celebrations.

About the speaker

Ray Quintana

American venture capitalist Ray Quintana settled in the Netherlands to lead the European activities of Cottonwood Technology Fund (CTF). The fund has tens of millions to distribute to startups. Quintana is foremost looking for entrepreneurs that just started a business.

CTF are seed and pre-seed stage technology commercialization funds with offices in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Enschede. The general partner of the funds has proven itself with top returns in regions rich in innovation but lacking in capital and management – the other critical resources to success.

Ray Quintana (Cottonwood Technology Fund) will give a presentation entitled ‘Internationalizing World Class Early Stage Funding’, together with the founder of NIKOS, Prof. Aard Groen.

Registration for this event is mandatory.

About VentureClasses

VentureClasses are public lectures, organised by NIKOS and VentureLab International. They are open to anyone and free of charge. The lecture topic relates broadly to ‘business and science’. The speakers who share their experiences with the audience, have made their mark as an entrepreneur and/or enterprising scientist. See also the overview of speakers of the past six years. The official language at the VentureClasses is English, unless it can be in Dutch.

Full details about our Anniversary Seminar, the Masterclasses and the VentureClasses can be found on the NIKOS anniversary webpage.
