Dr. Magda Boere-Boonekamp has been awarded the Dr. A.J. Swaakprijs

The Dr. A.J. Swaak Prize is awarded every two years by AJN Jeugdartsen Nederland to individuals, groups or institutions that have made a special effort to bring youth health care in the Netherlands to a higher level. On 13 November, Dr Magda Boere-Boonekamp will receive the prize, which consists of €5000, on the ‘AJN Jeugdartsen Nederland’-day. She worked at the Department of Health Technology and Services Research (HTSR; Faculty BMS).

Boere-Boonekamp has devoted her entire career to youth health care. From 1983 to 2007, she worked as a youth physician. In 1996, she obtained her PhD thesis 'Screening for developmental dysplasia of the hip', after which she started working as an Assistant professor and later as an Associate Professor for the HTSR department. During these years, she has worked hard to improve youth health care, after which she retired in December 2019.

VARIED RESEARCH

Her research at the University of Twente focused on many different topics within youth health care, such as dysplastic hip development, helmet therapy, infant mortality, strengthening care for vulnerable children, secondary prevention of child abuse, coordination of care around pregnancy and screening for postpartum depression. In all these topics, she always actively connected the research with practice by involving professionals in the field.
