Business Days Twente: connecting students and business for 40 years

Business Days Twente is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The event has grown into the largest student career event in the Netherlands, with more than 170 companies and numerous diverse activities. The new Business Days Twente edition will kick off on 5 February. Because of the anniversary, this edition will have a festive touch: with a Show Night where Victor Mids will show his illusions and tell how you influence your next job application. Board member Esmee Groenink talks about this special edition.

How did the Business Days Twente start?

"The first editions of the Business Days Twente were organised by the study associations S.V. Arago, W.S.G. Isaac Newton, and C.T.S.G. Alembic. As the event continued to grow, the associations felt that the event needed its own foundation, which led to Bedrijvendagen Universiteit Twente Foundation."

And how did it proceed?

"Once the event obtained its own foundation, several activities were organised. These included various workshops to improve your career skills and the possibility of personal interviews with companies. These activities are now known as Workshop Weeks and Company Experience Weeks. Students now have even more opportunities to get to know a company in an approachable way through informal activities such as dinners and special beer tastings."

What will the event look like this year?

"We start on 17 January with Show Night with Victor Mids. This is a new feature in our programme, and we are organising it because we would like to do something extra because of the anniversary. Victor Mids shows his illusions, but it is also a show with a message; it helps students think about how they can influence their job applications in a positive way."

On 5 and 6 February, the kick-off will be held festival-style at the O&O Square. Here, students can get their badges printed for the Career Fair on 14 and 15 February and sign up for all the activities. And, of course, enjoy tasty snacks or take a ride in an attraction!

In addition, Ireen Wüst will give a lunch lecture on her career to inspire students. She will talk about how she won gold five times in a row at the Olympics and the ups and downs that come with the road to success."

Why should students not miss this edition?

"Because above all, the Business Days Twente is a really great opportunity to explore career opportunities that you don't know about right now. There are so many great companies both in the region, and beyond. By talking to others about the next steps in your career, you can find out what suits you and what you would like to develop further. So I would say: See you soon at the Business Days Twente 2024, and explore your opportunities!"
