On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Frederik Wurm received the Steinhofer Lecture Award 2025 at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg — an annual award presented to an internationally leading researcher in the field of chemistry.
The award presented to Frederik Wurm by Bernhard Breit, dean of the faculty and chairman of the Steinhofer-Stiftung, includes an official invitation to a lecture, a certificate and a monetary award. During his visit to the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Frederik delivered a lecture entitled “Shaping the Future of Biodegradable Polymers: From Biopolymers to Synthetic Polyphosphoesters”.
Nearly a century after the foundation of polymer chemistry was laid, Frederik and his team are committed to building on that legacy. By pioneering sustainable polymers, they aim to contribute to a safe and circular future in which these vital materials, used in both everyday life and advanced technologies, are environmentally responsible.
The Steinhofer Lecture was established in 1993 and honours scientists of exceptional calibre. Previous awardees include Prof. Dr. H. Waldmann (Karlsruhe), Prof. Dr. Patrick Cramer (LMU Munich), and, most recently, Prof. Dr. Cristof Sparr (University of Basel).
