Location and Accommodation

The University of Twente is located in the east of the Netherlands between the cities of Enschede and Hengelo. It is easily accessible from Schiphol airport by public transport (direct train to Hengelo 2 hrs, followed by a bus drive 7 minutes or a short taxi drive, for details on transport visit www.utwente.nl/en/contact/route/ - campus-map). The campus of the University of Twente is where students and staff live, work, and study. All education and research buildings of the university are grouped together on an area of approximately 1 km wide and 1.5 km long, on the west side of Enschede. The campus is freely accessible, and so are its canteens and restaurants. The campus provides a safe, vibrant, and pleasant environment for science, education, and leisure. 

The Summer School participants will stay overnight on campus in an informal setting, in seven lodging cabins that can accommodate a total of 105 persons: www.utwente.nl/en/campus/reservations/hotels-overnight-stay/#cabins. Each cabin has 15 beds, five bunk beds on the ground floor and five single beds on the first floor. Showers and toilets are in a separate toilet building. The participants can use a large indoor room “De Stall” for group activities and meals (like the breakfast). All cabins have been reserved already for the Summer School. Participants that wish to stay in a more luxurious accommodation can book themselves several inexpensive alternatives on and close to the campus (at their own expenses, no reduction on registration fee!), such as the hotel Drienerburght (www.drienerburght.nl) and hotel De Broeierd (www.hampshirehotelbroeierdenschede.com/). Participants having a preference to stay in the city center of Enschede or Hengelo can book several excellent hotels downtown (at their own expenses, no reduction on registration fee!).

All lectures will be held in building Ravelijn, in room RA1501 (www.utwente.nl/fb/diensten_abc/algemene_bestanden/Collegezalen/RA_1501/). This is a congenial lecture room with daylight that can accommodate 93 persons, and is equipped with high quality modern audio-visual equipment. Lunches and coffee breaks are included will be held in the Atrium of the Ravelijn, directly outside of the lecture room.
