Location and Accommodation

  • Location

    The University of Twente is located in the east of the Netherlands between the cities of Enschede and Hengelo. It is easily accessible from Schiphol airport by public transport (direct train to Hengelo 2 hrs, followed by a bus drive 7 minutes or a short taxi drive, for details on transport visit www.utwente.nl/en/contact/route/ - campus-map.

    The campus of the University of Twente is where students and staff live, work, and study. All education and research buildings of the university are grouped together in an area of approximately 1 km wide and 1.5 km long on the west side of Enschede. The campus is freely accessible, and so are its canteens and restaurants.

    The campus provides a safe, vibrant, and pleasant environment for science, education, and leisure. 

  • Accommodation

    The Summer School participants will stay overnight on campus in an informal setting, in seven lodging cabins that can accommodate a total of 105 persons:

    These log cabins are simply furnished and, therefore, very suitable for group stays in an informal setting.

    • Cabins will be either "only ladies" or "only gentlemen"
    • Electricity is available in the cabins
    • There are cupboards in the log cabins
    • Matras cover, blanket, pillow, and towel are provided. If you want, you can bring your own sleeping bag/duvet, pillowcase.
    • Showers and toilets are housed in a separate sanitary building at ± 25 meters from the cabins. There are separate areas for ladies and gentlemen.

    The participants have access to a large indoor room “De Stall” for group activities and meals (like the breakfast). All cabins have been reserved already for the Summer School.

    Participants that wish to stay in a more luxurious accommodation can book themselves several  alternatives  (at their own expenses, no reduction on registration fee!) on and close to the campus, such as the hotel UPark Hotel and hotel De Broeierd. Participants having a preference to stay in the city center of Enschede or Hengelo can book several excellent hotels downtown (again, at their own expenses, no reduction on registration fee!).

  • Lectures

    All lectures will be held in building Ravelijn, in room RA1501 (www.utwente.nl/fb/diensten_abc/algemene_bestanden/Collegezalen/RA_1501/). This is a congenial lecture room with daylight that can accommodate 93 persons, and is equipped with high quality modern audio-visual equipment. Lunches and coffee breaks are included will be held in the Atrium of the Ravelijn, directly outside of the lecture room.
