NWO-M Grant for Prof. Jurriaan Huskens & Dr. Robert de Vries (UT/UU) Influenza A virus receptor engagement, a complex dance with multiple partners

The Board of the NWO Domain Science has approved seventeen grant applications in the Open Competition Domain Science-M programme.

M-grants are intended for innovative, high-quality, fundamental research and/or studies involving matters of scientific urgency.

One of the grants goes to Dr. Robert de Vries & Prof. Jurriaan Huskens (UU/UT) for their project 'Influenza A virus receptor engagement, a complex dance with multiple partners':

"In this project we will use the attachment protein of the flu virus. This protein we will put in various shapes so that we mimic the virus as good as possible, or as bad as possible. Making use of state-of-the-art analytical tools we can learn to understand the mechanism of attachment of the flu virus in great detail. This will help us to design better antiviral drugs in the future".
