Microfabrication techniques.
The Carre facility supports a wide range of microfabrication activities:
- NILT, a desktop nanoimprint tool for easy replication of micro and nanoscale structures. A compact nanoimprint tool that can be used for both imprinting and hot embossing. Perfect for testing and demo. Versatile and flexible. Supports masters and substrates up to 120 and 210 mm. Both versions support thermal imprint up to 250°C and UV imprint at 365 nm and/or 405 nm.
- Diener Zepto plasma cleaner. Low-pressure plasma offers a wide range of options for surface modification, for example fine-cleaning of contaminated components, plasma activation of plastic parts, etching of PTFE or silicon, and coating of plastic parts with PTFE-like layers.
- DATRON neo CNC milling. Do precision machining (micron tolerances) in aluminum and other materials with the DATRON neo. Produce high surface quality finishes in a fraction of the time compared to a conventional CNC.
- ORION A150 AM 3D-printer. An advanced industrial additive manufacturing system for 3D printing high-performance polymers with Thermal Radiation Heating to achieve superior strength. It can print materials like: PEEK, PAEK, PEKK, PEI, ULTEM1010, ULTEM9085, ABS, PC, PA6, PA12, PPSF/PPSU. Technology: FFF - Thermal Radiation Fusion / Extruder Max Temp: 500°C / Bed Max Temp: 300°C / TRH* Max Temp: 315°C Chamber Temperature, 370°C Layer Heater Temperature.
- Asiga Ultra 32 3D printers for glass 3D printing with Glassomer
- Fisnar F4000 Advance 3-axis dispensing robot, designed to ensure precise fluid placement and positioning.
- Bioforce Ozone Cleaner. UV ozone cleaner, ProCleaner™ Plus system removes molecular levels of contamination to ensure the cleanest possible SPTs, AFM probes and surfaces.

Read-out & Sensing
The Carre facility supports real-time monitoring of cell integrity, molecular interaction studies, analysis of molecular composition, investigation of electrical properties of tissues and cells. In our lab you will find the following techniques
- Bruker FTIR (ATR) and “Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy“ (IRRAS) is an established analytical technique for the characterization of adsorbed matter and thin layers on metal surfaces.
- Reichert Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) is a highly sensitive technique for accurate analysis of the interactions of two biomolecules with respect to binding kinetics and affinity as well as binding specificity.
- Molecular Devices multi-detection plate reader. A microplate reader that can detect two or more applications is considered a multi-mode plate reader. Typically the system can detect absorbance, luminescence, fluorescence.
- Scienion Spotter for high precision microdispensing from picoliters to nanoliters.
- Orbit 16, automated formation of 16 artificial lipid bilayers at the push of a button.
- Zurich MFIA 500 kHz / 5 MHz Impedance Analyzer
- Microqubic 3D Microscopy. The most versatile 3D imaging systems for research, education, and precision manufacturing.
- CH instruments 1040C Multipotentiostat (8-channels)
