Mini-Symposium: DiffMag for magnetic sentinel lymph node biopsy
In cancer treatment the metastatic status of regional lymph nodes is considered among the principal prognostic factors. Therefore, accurate staging of lymph nodes is of importance. Since the sentinel lymph node was found representative for the lymphatic status, the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) procedure is currently used as an accurate staging tool. The conventional SLNB procedure (facilitated by radioisotopes), with its limited availability in developing and developed countries motivates exploration of the potential for magnetic sensing technologies in these cases.
This symposium will address the clinical needs and technical requirements necessary to advance the magnetic sensing technologies regarding sentinel lymph node detection and staging to a clinical procedure.
