Abstract information

Oral & Poster presentations

The oral and poster presentations aim to provide a training ground for younger researchers (PhD students, early-stage postdocs, and Master students who are conducting their research within a TechMed group).

Poster presentation (moderated tour)

Each presenter will participate in 1 of the Moderated Poster Tours. During the tour, you and up to 7 fellow presenters will visit each poster in your group under the guidance of a moderator (a senior scientist). Each researcher will give a 2-minute pitch to introduce their work.
In addition to the moderated tours, the poster gallery will remain open for further presentations and discussions, providing an excellent opportunity to engage with other TechMed researchers and exchange ideas. You can use the TechMed format when preparing your poster.

Oral presentations

Researchers will present for a maximum of 8 minutes, followed by 2 minutes for discussion. Please ensure your presentation is tailored for a broad TechMed audience, not just experts in your specific field. You can use the TechMed template when preparing your presentation.

Guidelines & Criteria

Abstract guidelines
  • You are only allowed to submit 1 abstract as the presenting author. The presenting author submits their own abstract.
  • During the abstract submission process, you can indicate your preference for the type of session (i.e. poster tour, oral presentation). The organisation will try to accommodate this, but reserves the right to make adjustments if necessary. Please be sure to submit an abstract for the right session type.
  • If the number of submissions exceeds the available presentation slots, priority will be given to researchers who have not presented at previous editions of the TechMed Research Day.
  • Abstracts will be scored based on both scientific quality as well as comprehensibility for the broader TechMed community.
  • Make sure no confidential information (e.g. potential future patent, patient information) is included in your abstract. If you are not sure, please check with your supervisor. Also, be aware that for some projects it is necessary to receive permission for the abstract application from the project group or the user committee. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, please check with your supervisor.
  • If you, as the submitter, are unable to present at the TechMed Research Day, a colleague from your group may present on your behalf. However, you will no longer be eligible for the presentation prizes.

  • All submissions and presentations must be in English.
  • All submissions should be written for a broad TechMed audience, not experts in your field.
  • All abstracts must be submitted as a Microsoft Word (Docx), using the provided format (see below), by the presenting author.
  • Participants are required to use the provided abstract template(s) and upload them according to the specified rules. If the abstract doesn't meet the requirements, it may not be evaluated.
Abstract reviewing criteria

Scoring on a scale of 1-5 (poor - fair – good - very good - excellent)

Quality of abstract content

If alternative headings are used, the reviewers will assign 5 scores appropriate to the structure and quality of your abstract.

  1. Introduction (the clinical, societal or scientific challenge is clear)
  2. Objectives (it is clear what the researcher wants to achieve)
  3. Methods (in layman’s terms)
  4. Results (the results are in line with the objectives, described in layman’s terms, and avoid using terminology that is not common outside your speciality) (if no results are available yet, indicate what your expected outcome will be)
  5. Conclusion (conclusion logically follows the results described) (if no results are available yet, discuss what impact you foresee)

Attractiveness for the TechMed audience

  • Coherent and readable (the broader TechMed audience can read and understand the abstract)
  • Interesting and appealing to the audience (the abstract entices readers to join your presentation to learn more about your research)

 Guidelines

  • Followed abstract format and guidelines

Awards

During the sessions, your TechMed colleagues will award points to your presentation and provide feedback (Tops & Tips), which you will receive after the Research Day. The best 3 oral presentations and poster pitches will receive an award, as well as the poster with the best valorisation potential. The winners will be announced at the end of the TechMed Research Day (we expect you to be there).
