The TechMed Simulation Centre wants to respond quickly to the current corona crisis. It all begins with people. Therefore, medical professionals, such as medical assistants and specialists, who need further training on the immediate care of COVID-19 patients, receive targeted training courses in the Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST). These training courses are supported by employees of the TechMed Simulation Centre.
The scenario training courses for the care of COVID-19 (corona) patients focus on a systematic approach to emergency situations. In addition, the application of hygiene measures will be addressed. The course is a variation of the existing training Systematic Approach to Medical Emergency Situations (SBMS), which is now fully focused on the immediate care for corona patients. The training courses, which are offered within the MST, consist of a theoretical and practical part and are taught by experienced trainers of the SBMS course.
Thanks to the good collaboration that was already in place, rapid action could be taken after the coronavirus outbreak in the Netherlands. MST and the TechMed Centre worked together on scenarios and training materials. In addition, the TechMed Centre provided staff (Technical Physicians and Technicians), equipment and simulation dolls. In the upcoming period, our Technical Physicians will assist in training as many medical assistants and medical specialists as possible within the MST. In the meantime, there have already been meetings with Ziekenhuis Groep Twente (ZGT) about this initiative.
