Technohal

The Technohal at University of Twente has undergone a major transformation. The original function of the process technology hall had been lost years ago due to technological advances. The architectural and cultural value of the building, together with its functional and technical possibilities, prompted the decision to give the Technohal a new purpose and transform it into a modern TechMed Centre, in which sustainability and circularity are central. The new Technohal was completed in 2019.

The Technohal has a smart building design with many built-in sustainability measures. Toilets flush using rainwater stored in a tank next to the building. The climate-control system is demand-driven and automatically adjusts based on how the building is being used. Climate-control ceilings in each room are independently adjustable and can be used for heating and cooling. The roof of the building houses 624 solar panels. Much of the furniture in the Technohal has been given a second life after being refurbished.
