Solar collectors

To provide a pleasant water temperature for swimmers in UT's outdoor pool, the temperature must be kept pretty constant. This makes it necessary to heat the water. This consumes a lot of energy. To make the pool more sustainable, measures have been taken in cooperation with various employees of FB (Facility Management), Unit Campus as well as various contractors.

The pool's water and showers are heated by solar collectors. A remarkable total of 40 solar collectors have been installed. The panels are located on the roof of the locker room, on the existing water heater and on the roof terrace. The energy they generate is used to heat the pool water as well as the water for the adjacent showers.

In addition, the pools will be covered when not in use to prevent heat loss. For the instruction pool, which can also be covered during the day, a more advanced cover was chosen: solar slats. These slats block outgoing heat and allow incoming heat (from sunlight shining on it) to pass through.

For the larger pool, a so-called folding cover was chosen, partially dug into the ground. This way, the lifeguards' view of the pool remains good, so it is still safe to swim in the UT outdoor pool.
