  • What is Aerial Silk

Aerial silk is an acrobatic discipline which involves two pieces of silk rigged from the ceiling. It is a spectacular form of art where you can express yourself freely in the air. It combines strength, flexibility and creativity. This makes aerial silk the best hybrid discipline you could ever find between dance and athletic training.

The origins are found in a French school around 1959, but it was only until later on that it became popular thanks to the many performances of the Cirque Du Soleil.

  • About the courses

Aerial silk beginner level 1: beginners and anyone who is interested in Aerial Silk.

Entry requirement: no previous experience and high strength performance are required. We will build it up together from scratch.

Aerial silk beginner level 2: beginners with some experience in Aerial Silk (for instance after completing the first course).

    Entry requirement:

You did aerial silk for at least two/three months. You are able to climb on the silk, to make footlocks and to do a hip key.

  • Course goals

You will learn and master the appropriate techniques to climb safely on the silk and build up strength and flexibility. Then, you will learn the main wraps of the aerial silk discipline.

This will give you the foundation to be able to replicate a pattern of movements: a split in mid-air, candy cane, music box and many more. This will allow you to progress to higher ability levels, to connect learned moves for a short performance and/or improvisation on the silk during class.

  • About the teacher

I am Giulia Sereni (aka giuliaonair), originally from Italy. From the age of 12 till 18 I practiced classical, modern and contemporary dance. The continuous search for new forms of art and challenges brought me to the amazing world of aerial silk. Once I tried it, I immediately fell in love with this discipline. Why? Because to me aerial silk is elegance, harmony, flow but it is also a way to push my limits. It is a never-ending learning path, where I can experiment, feel free to make mistakes, find new combos and communicate through my body.

In 2017, I got into aerial silk. In 2020, I decided to combine my passion for teaching, sports and aerial silk by successfully qualifying as a Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Athletic Coach and Aerial Silk Trainer at the CSEN (National Educational Sports Centre), recognized by CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee). In 2021, I started my freelance activity as ‘giuliaonair’.

My motto whilst in the air: feel free to fly and dream.
