Sustainability Reporting for Effective Leadership

14:45 - 15:45 Sustainability Reporting for Effective Leadership

Language: English
Location: Carre 3B

How should (major) companies document their current efforts on sustainable action so that it helps them gauge even more effective sustainable action in the future? How can governments at different levels be transparent and govern how they address climate risks and improve climate resilience? The answer is: through sustainability reporting.

What started as voluntary practices like corporate social responsibility (CSR), is now increasingly becoming more institutionalized, regulated and binding, for example through EU law. This means, that sustainability (or integrated) reporting merges financial and non-financial reporting covering ESG components: environmental, social and governance impact of activities.

In this session, we will address promising directions for future research in SR, such as the development of audience-specific metrics for sustainability reporting, the impact of these metrics on decisions and behavior, investigations into the usefulness and trustworthiness of sustainability certification, that should guide societal actors to meaningful and effective sustainable action pathways.
