Language: Dutch (English on request)

The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is the system of standards for management and interoperation of signalling for railways by the European Union (EU) and is being implemented in various European countries. ERTMS enhances the safety and reliability of the railway and increases its capacity. It also facilitates cross-border international freight and passenger transport by rail. ERTMS lays the foundation for further digitalization of the railway network.

The ERTMS program faces the challenge of gradually implementing ERTMS in the Netherlands in collaboration with the rail sector. In this session, participants will be introduced to the complex world of ERTMS (which involves a high degree of unpredictability) and will see that traditional management tools have limited applicability, necessitating additional interventions to ensure the safe and reliable implementation of ERTMS. Based on scientific research into the introduction of new rolling stock (trains), participants will be provided with practical tools to effectively deal with unexpected events.
