When residents create their own energy communities, the energy transition takes wings.
Every day we see the disruptive effects of global warming. There is a growing urgency to support resident initiatives that put climate interest above financial interest. When residents create their own energy communities, the energy transition takes wings. That is why we are joining forces to skillfully develop local ownership and control in the Twente energy transition. Help each other! There is a great need among the many local energy initiatives to join forces in the energy transition. We do this by cooperation between the many Twente energy communities, strengthening each other and supporting each other with a new organization to realize sustainable generation and local consumption of electricity and the heat transition.
By organizing local energy communities by ordinary people, we will provide for this basic need in an integer and sustainable way. Committed citizens unite meaningfully in these so-called energy communities and we want to facilitate that. After all, they diligently take responsibility for organizing the energy ecosystem radically differently with a focus on local self-reliance. They do so from values such as justice, service, truth, equality and empathy.
Since July 1, 2004, the energy market has been liberalized. The Dutch government liberalized the energy market to promote competition among suppliers and give consumers freedom of choice to choose their own energy supplier. But liberalization has not exactly brought sustainable and affordable energy closer, but it has greatly increased private profits. Clumsy international cooperation, think of the Russian dependence we have organized, has even put our energy supply at risk. All this has led to skyrocketing energy costs for households. Whereas more affluent households were able to take energy measures to lower their monthly costs, often aided by hefty subsidies, this was and is not available to lower-income households.
