We are happy to announce the joint opening ceremony of Academic Year 2025-2026 for Saxion University of Applied Sciences and the University of Twente. This special occasion is taking place on Monday, 1 September at the Wilminktheater in the heart of Enschede. Join us to celebrate this unique moment in honour of Enschede's 700th anniversary!
Stronger Together
The opening of the academic year is always special, but this year we are stepping it up a notch. The reason: Enschede is 700 years old and that is a major achievement. A city where Saxion and the University of Twente are firmly rooted. A place of progress, courage and cooperation. This is why we have chosen to enter this new year together, united by the motto: Stronger Together.
Look at the past, focus on the future
Enschede's 700th anniversary gives this opening extra meaning. We look to the past. But our focus is fixed on the future. On what we can do together for a region bursting with technology, creativity and innovation. Saxion and the UT are taking the lead. And we would love to celebrate it with you.
A joint and festive start
We will be starting with a cortège. Administrators of the educational institutions and municipalities, professors, lecturers and students from the University of Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, ROC Twente and ArtEZ walk together towards the Wilmink theatre.
With a special guest: Prime Minister Dick Schoof
We are honoured to have Prime Minister Dick Schoof as the keynote speaker at this joint opening ceremony. For him, Twente represents a return to his roots. In his keynote speech, he will share his vision for the future of the Netherlands and the role of regions such as Twente, as well as reflecting on his personal connection with this unique part of the country.
We sincerely hope you will be there.
