Urban Green Infrastructure Walkshop UT Climate Center x Green Hub

How can our experience of the living natural world be a catalyst to rethink the landscape of Twente University Campus?

During this walk-shop we re-imagine human-managed landscapes through playfully exploring ways of reshuffling green infrastructure patterns and rethink rural-urban (rurban) interactions. The walk-shop will be guided by artist Merel Zwarts, from the Travelling Farm Museum of Forgotten Skills, developed in collaboration with the RUrban Futures Collective at BMS and with financial support from UT's Climate Centre.

During the walkshop we explore the campus in a playful way using arts-based methods developed by the artist collective, Travelling Farm Museum of Forgotten Skills. By looking at different patterns in the local human-managed surroundings, we re-imagine the landscape to recover our ecological knowledge through sensorial experiments, co-design methods and futuring techniques. Where does human made landscape clash, limit or enhance our intimate relationships with living entities? How do these relationships and experiences shape our values and visions? After our walk we weave our experiences and observations into a new imaginative co-designed patchwork of propositions of the future landscape(s) of the Campus.

As part of Sustainability Week, this walkshop is the final in a series funded by the UT Climate Centre to explore a larger central research question: How can guided experiences serve as a participatory tool for evaluating and rethinking the role of urban green infrastructure to address climate change? In addition, as this final walkshop is developed in collaboration with the RUrban Futures Collective at BMS, we will focus on how GI might help reconnect culture and ecology through ‘RUrban’ landscapes. What might these landscapes look like, and what kinds of experiences would they involve?
