The WorkdayWasteWalk events on October 7 would be the physical start to enthuse our students, staff and regional partners to make a structural contribution to finding, recording and preventing litter on and around our campuses.
Cleaning up alone is not the solution!
Worldwide, and in the Netherlands specifically, there are more and more people who help to build valuable databases by recording (geo-tagging) found litter!
With the help of this database, more and more real change is being enforced by engaging in factual discussions with the business community and directing and supporting politicians in their policy making:

Original event
Date: Wednesday 7 October
Time: 12.00 - 17.00
Location: several location in Enschede and Hengelo
The Workday Waste Walk will be held on the 7th of October 2020. This day, we ask citizens of the region to clean-up Twente together. We facilitate all materials and together we can pick-up and dispose trash in several area's in Twente.
At several places within the region, people can pick-up and return grippers and garbage bags. People can pick-up waste in walking distance from the pick-up areas. This could be done individually or in small groups with 1.5m distance between adults. Of course, we would also like to encourage people to clean up their own neighbourhood and dispose the waste either at one of the pick-up/drop-off areas or in their own bin.
A waste walk can take place in small groups, which makes it a very suitable activity for small meetings and networking. As educational institutions we would like to connect students with the businesses and encourage them to network during the Workday Waste Walk.
Additionally, we aim to organize a location in the city of Enschede were people can sort the waste and were we can recycle the collected plastic into new products. Of course, everyone who participates in the Workday Waste Walk could watch this process. Please check this website for the latest details.
The Workday Waste Walk will be kicked-off at the UT by a (online and offline) presentation by Trashpacker Tijmen Sissing. He started a spontaneous clean-up during a backpack holiday which grew into a global trash picking movement. Afterwards, from 12.00pm, we will start the waste walk on campus at the UT, together with Tijmen Sissing. This is a great opportunity to ask him lots of questions. Materials could be picked-up and returned at the Hogekamp Square near Vrijhof. Materials could be picked-up and returned between 12.00pm and 15.00pm.
From 12.00 until 15.00pm the waste walk takes place in at the Saxion city campus Enschede. Materials could be picked-up and returned at the square in front of the entrance of Saxion (M.H. Tromplaan 28).
Tijmen Sissing will have a second (private) presentation at ROC van Twente location Hengelo, in the afternoon. Afterwards at 15.30, the Workday Waste Walk in Hengelo will start. Tijmen Sissing will join this walk! Materials could be picked up at "de Gieterij" in Hengelo.
Deventer and Apeldoorn will have waste walks on resp. Thursday and Saturday, please check out these seperate event pages for the Deventer and Apeldoorn Waste Walks.
