37: Transformative Innovation Policy for a Better World (Bianca Cavicchi, Cesar Dro, Julien Ravet)

Science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy plays a crucial role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and social exclusion. Transformative innovation policy (TIP) emerges as a new approach to STI policy, aiming to support the development and adoption of new technologies and innovation systems for a more just, equitable, and sustainable future. This track provides a platform to discuss the role of STI policy in governance for a better world, exploring how STI policy can promote social justice, environmental sustainability, and other desirable outcomes. It also delves into the challenges of implementing TIP, fosters cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue on STI governance, and investigates how system dynamics simulation, economic complexity, policy experimentation, and other approaches can inform the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of a TIP approach to STI policy. Papers should address one or more of the following questions:

This track is intended for a broad audience, including STI policymakers and practitioners, scholars and researchers working on STI policy and governance, representatives from civil society and the private sector, and anyone interested in the role of STI in shaping a better future. The track will consist of a research paper presentations session and a policy dialogue session. The paper presentation session will provide scholars and researchers with an opportunity to share their work on TIP and STI governance for better worlds, focusing on the use of system dynamics simulation and economic complexity. The policy dialogue session will be more interactive, allowing participants to learn about and discuss specific TIP tools and approaches. A workshop may be organized to discuss the most effective approaches for TIP design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
