Outside of the Netherlands many people know that large areas of this country lie below sea level and that the Dutch have struggled for centuries against the treat of flooding but few know any details. Robert Hoeksema, a professor of engineering from Calvin College in the United States, tried to change this by writing a book on Dutch water management. The book called "Designed for Dry Feet: Flood Protection and Land Reclamation in the Netherlands" was published in 2006 by ASCE Press. He will discuss this project along with his impression of Dutch water management.
