Sriram Ramanathan is a second year EngD (Engineering Doctorate) student in Energy and Process Technology (TFE department). His poster presentation on “Optimizing a Radial Multizone Dryer using CFD tools" was awarded second price on the NWGD 2022 drying symposium.
Sriram is working on joint project with ISPT, Avebe, Givaudan, Corbion and UCLouvain to develop a new generation of spray dryers characterised by superior energy efficiency, direct gas/product separation, small volume, and high throughput. This can be achieved by combination of vortex chamber technology with counter-current flow configuration. Sriram, using numerical tools, is investigating the process conditions for the final design of the dryer.
