King Willem-Alexander to open TechMed Centre at the University of Twente

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will perform the official opening of the brand new TechMed Centre at the University of Twente (UT). This will take place on 29 November 2019, the day on which the University of Twente celebrates its 58th anniversary, the DIES Natalis. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will be given a guided tour of the TechMed Centre at the end of the official opening. This research centre is unique. Until now, no other place in Europe has brought medical technology together in this way.

From 1.30 hours onwards, the 58th Dies Natalis, in attendance of King Willem-Alexander, will be broadcasted live online.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will give the official green light for the TechMed Centre. He will be joined by four students representing medical technology, which spearheads the TechMed Centre. After the closing ceremony by Rector Magnificus Thom Palstra, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander will be given a tour of the building and he will talk to the 'residents' (students and scientists). The residents will demonstrate the brand new technical and medical facilities in the building to the King. These include experimental operating theatres equipped with the latest technologies, simulated intensive care units with full-body simulators, echolabs and the e-health house.

ABOUT THE TECHMED CENTRE

The Technical Medical Centre improves (preventive) healthcare with personalised technological innovations. The University of Twente brings talent development, education, scientific research, innovation and the simulation centre together under one roof in its TechMed Centre. This is unique in the Netherlands. By combining technological know-how with behavioural/social sciences in the research and education programme, a unique interaction between people and technology is created. In addition, there is intensive cooperation with a large network of top clinical hospitals, UMCs and the MedTech business community. With this knowledge and cooperation, we can accelerate the application and acceptance of technology in healthcare and thus contribute to affordable, more efficient and better diagnostics, prevention, treatment and care, so that healthcare in the Netherlands remains affordable and patient-oriented in the future and the competitive position in the field of economic activity in Europe is further strengthened.
