The TRIAS (Triple Access System Planning) project aims to transform healthcare accessibility in the Netherlands by integrating physical mobility, spatial proximity, and digital connectivity. By aligning mobility and healthcare planning, TRIAS explores how digital technologies, local care hubs, and better spatial design can reduce the need for travel while improving access to care. Through collaboration with researchers, healthcare providers, insurers, and policymakers, the project develops strategies to make healthcare delivery more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive.
Within this broader effort, one PhD project focuses on understanding how spatial, transport, and digital factors influence patients’ ability to access care in a hybrid system that includes both in-person and remote services. By examining real-world barriers to telemedicine and other alternative care models, the project seeks to identify which populations and areas are best suited for digital or localized healthcare solutions. The findings will inform planning tools and policies aimed at supporting more equitable healthcare access.
