A PhD trajectory where we explore ecosystem in the construction industry (infrastructure sector) from the perspective of suppliers (private actors). Given the demand-led nature of the construction industry, after all usually public actors procure projects on which private actors react by a bid. And given the actor heterogeneity in ecosystems by means of the quadruple helix. This research aims to explore the responsibility of suppliers in initiating, developing and leading ecosystems in the public-private context of the construction industry. We focus on roles, values and governance within ecosystems. The opportunity for a proactive role for suppliers, may shift the industry towards a more supplier-led context. Since public actors are not able to solve the grand societal challenges (in our sector and society as a whole) by themselves, proactiveness and responsibility by suppliers through ecosystems may be necessary to jointly contribute to the grand societal challenges of our times.
