Many women with breast cancer continue to struggle with fatigue years after diagnosis and treatment. Although treatments to alleviate these symptoms do exist, their effectiveness varies from person to person. In 2020, the PARTNR project for personalised cancer treatment and care was launched; by combining medical data with data on day-to-day living it aims to provide a deeper understanding of fatigue. In this context, Kim Wijlens (EEMCS/TechMed Center) has developed a holistic questionnaire to help facilitate a more personalised approach.
PARTNR is already yielding promising results. To continue the project, KWF Dutch Cancer Society has awarded follow-up funding to researchers Dr Annemieke Witteveen and Kim Wijlens of the University of Twente. As a postdoc on the project, Kim will create a personal holistic profile so that specific treatment types can be tailored to individual patients and their treatment preferences. In addition, we will explore ways of ensuring that everyone who experiences fatigue after breast cancer can obtain advice on treatment that is geared towards their personal needs.
Project budget of KWF: €152,656.67
