'Intelligent nestbox' should tell what residents eat

Scientists from the University of Twente and the University of Amsterdam, among others, are working on technology and algorithms that tell what residents of birdhouses feed their young every day.

Watching into bird nests is nothing new, but what makes this project so special is that the technology should eventually automatically identify what food the birds bring into the boxes. Jacob Kemminga, Researcher in the Pervasive Systems (PS) department of the EEMCS faculty is developing the technology for these nest boxes. Jacob: "This will soon allow us to collect much more information and gain new insights with little effort."
