Thomas Raub is the first BIT trainee to receive an Engineering Doctorate

On Monday 17 April, after a successful defence of his thesis called: 'Colleagues, not competitors: development of a value-based toolbox for responsible cleaning robotisation', Thomas Raub was the first BIT trainee to receive his Engineering Doctorate.

Thomas received his doctorate for his research on human-machine interactions between workers and robots for physical labour. The research addresses the impact of robotisation on professional cleaning work, based on the theoretical frameworks of value-based design and self-determination theory. 

Thomas: 'The EngD programme was for me a good way to apply my research to address a specific and concrete societal challenge from the market. The programme furthermore enabled me to develop myself both practically and professionally to be a better researcher and better engineer, who is able to contribute to a better future society.'

the EngD BIT programme

The mission of the BIT EngD programme is to deliver professionals who are able to understand and design robust and economically sustainable IT-enabled networks, such as social networks, online markets, business networks and public service networks, which balance economic opportunities and online IT risks to attain business goals. The Engineering Doctorate in Business and IT (BIT EngD) aims to raise the level of competence of professionals in IT to deal with the opportunities and challenges that these developments pose. The best possible solution for the design problem

An EngD programme is a 2-year post-master design programme, focussing on the direct needs of the industry. All EngD programmes are tailor-made in close cooperation with industry partners. The basic principle of the EngD programme is that the trainee, the set of courses and the coaching expert will come together with one thought in mind: 'the best possible solution for the design problem'.
