This morning, the UT in the Media awards were traditionally presented during the UT New Year's Breakfast. President Vinod Subramaniam presented certificates, VVV vouchers and flowers to the various winners during his speech. This was followed by short talks, each of which delved deeper into the research themes.
Student team Electric Superbike Twente won in the student category. The fourth Electric Superbike Twente team started developing the Delta-XE in 2021. This motorbike achieves 220 bhp and a speed of more than 300 km/h. The race bike was tested thoroughly on the circuit in Drenthe and an extensive article was devoted to the team in Dutch Newspaper Trouw. In April 2022, news about the launch of the Twente bike spread all over the world. It was covered in countries such as Brazil, Thailand, Argentina and China, mainly in motorcycle magazines.
PhD media award
The PhD media prize went to PhD student Rianne Bulthuis (TNW), for research into breast cancer screening using photoacoustics. In October 2022, she and professor Srirang Manohar (TNW) appeared on TV on the Dutch NTR programme ATLAS (from 20:40 min). "She did the television interview excellently and showed in a detailed interview at the hospital how this new method works," Subramaniam said.

In third place was Professor of Public Administration Marcel Boogers (BMS), who frequently speaks to media on administrative matters. Second place went to Azadeh Akbari (BMS) who advocates for women's rights in her home country Iran and had an opinion piece placed in The Guardian. The Social Media Award was for Pieter-Tjerk de Boer (EEMCS). He gained massive online attention through the 'WebSDR' he developed. This made it possible to eavesdrop on Russian soldiers, among other things.
