KNVI Thesis Award for Informatics and Information Science - First and third prize for UT graduates

Thijs van Ede, Djurre van der Wal and Meike Nauta, were nominated for the KNVI Thesis Award for Computer and Information Science, on the basis of their exceptional achievements for their Computer Science Master Degree: all three students graduated cum laude, with a final thesis grade of 10.

The jury came to the conclusion that the first prize should be awarded to Meike Nauta, University of Twente. She was nominated by Dr. D. (Doina) Bucur, Dr. C. (Christin) Seifert and Dr. ir. M. (Maurice) van Keulen. Her thesis concerned the topic "Temporal Causal Discovery and Structure Learning with Attention-Based Convolutional Neural Networks".

The second prize was awarded to Govert Brinkmann, Leiden University, nominated by Prof. dr. ir. F.J. (Fons) Verbeek and Dr. K.F.D. (Kristian) Rietveld, for his thesis "Interactive Visualization of Large Networks on a Tiled Display System".

The third prize has been awarded to Thijs van Ede, University of Twente, nominated by Dr. A. (Andreas) Peter, for his thesis "Detecting Adaptive Data Exfiltration in HTTP Traffic".

Djurre van der Wal has won the KNVI Internet Thesis Award - Internet & Technology.
