Dr. ir. Anne-Johan Annema new Program Director of the Electrical Engineering Bachelor and Master programs

Anne-Johan has recently been appointed as the new Program Director of the Electrical Engineering Bachelor and Master programs. On August 1, 2017 he will succeed Mark Bentum, who will continue his career at TU Eindhoven.

Anne-Johan received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Twente, in 1990 and 1994, respectively. In 1995, he joined the Semiconductor Device Architecture Department of Philips Research in Eindhoven. In 1997, he joined the Mixed-Signal Circuits and Systems Department at Philips Research. Since June 1 2000 he is with the IC-Design group in the department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Twente, where he is associate professor in the ICD group headed by Bram Nauta. His current research focus is on analog and mixed-signal electronics, RF power circuits and technology/semiconductor physics related circuit design. He is also part-time consultant in industry and in 2001 he co-founded ChipDesignWorks. Currently he supervises 7 PhD students, holds 11 patents and currently has an h-index of 20.

At the UT, Anne-Johan was responsible for 5 BSc pre-TOM courses at EE and 1 BSc pre-TOM course at AT. For these he received a number of educational awards. Currently he is coordinator/lecturer of the third module at the EE curriculum: Electronics. Furthermore, he has been a member of the EE education evaluation committee (OKC) for over 15 years, participated in a number of education-revision committees, and is actively involved in EE promotion activities, matching events and in platforms to improve education (e.g. ETP).

“My view on education as well as on marketing the UT and EE is that its efficiency should and can be improved, without increasing the (perceived) work load. In my own teaching I therefore mix among others “shock-and-awe”, serious fun events, contests, peer learning and peer supervision, combined with a fair share of Easter eggs. My ultimate goal is to deliver more (world class) graduates, and to strengthen our reputation towards companies and prospective students, preferably by increasing efficiencies of teaching, learning and marketing. I look forward to building upon the successes achieved by Mark Bentum and to working together with all people involved in the Electrical Engineering program.”
