In Memoriam: Jitse Kuilman

We have received the heartbreaking news that our Bachelor Applied Mathematics student Jitse Kuilman has passed away on 30 November 2024 at the age of 23. We will miss Jitse deeply, and share our condolences with Jitse's family and friends.

Jitse started with Applied Mathematics in 2019 and was a member of the AM community and Abacus. We remember Jitse as a kind and generous student who was serious and enthusiastic about his study.

On Thursday 5 December the flag at UT will be at half-mast.

A memorial ceremony will be held on Friday 6 December at Boerderij Bosch for students and employees who wish to come together and commemorate Jitse. The walk-in is between 10:45 - 11:00, the ceremony starts at 11.00 and we expect to walk to the UT memorial place no later than 11:30. The gathering will end around 12.00.

We have arranged a memorial place in the Zilverling building in room 1008 for those who want to pay respect to Jitse and express their condolences to Jitse’s family and friends. The room will be open up to and including Friday 6 December.

We wish everyone a lot of strength, love and courage in dealing with the loss of Jitse.

Students who need help or feel the need to talk, can contact study adviser Lilian Spijker or student psychologists. More information regarding support for students can be found on the SACC website. Employees can contact HR, who can refer them to company doctors and psychologists.
