Interaction Lab at the National XR Day
The Interaction Lab will participate in the National XR Day, hosted at the University of Twente on the 3rd of July. Our team has prepared a talk, demo, and workshop to showcase our work in extended reality (XR) technologies.
Talk: Sports Interaction Technology - Dees Postma will deliver a talk on Sports Interaction Technology, with a focus on his VR Rowing project - Rowing Reimagined (VR4VRT). Dees will discuss how this project measures human movements during exercise and provides feedback to steer behaviour and improve performance, social interaction, collaboration, and revalidation.
Demo: VR Museum for Cultural Heritage - Shengui Wang and Delaram Javdani Rikhtehgar will present their VR Museum for Cultural Heritage project. This demo will be split between two locations: Waaier and our own lab (in the Citadel building). Participants can experience social VR interactions with people in different physical locations, exploring museum exhibits in innovative, playful, and interactive ways. This project is a collaboration with the Rembrandthuis.
Workshop: Social VR Platform (Resonite) - Robby van Delden, Joris Weijdom, and Daniel Davison will conduct a workshop in our lab (in the Citadel building), showcasing the social VR platform Resonite and its applications in supporting education and research projects. They will demonstrate key features of the platform and share practical insights from their work. The Rowing and Museum demos explained above are prime examples of projects built using Resonite.
Join us for an immersive and informative day as we explore the future of XR technologies and their impact on various fields. Do not forget to register for the event via SURF’s website. We look forward to seeing you there!
Joris Köster at the Dutch Innovation Days
We are proud to share that Joris Köster, a member of our Workshops and Events team and a Creative Technology student, was invited to host a workshop at the Dutch Innovation Days. His event focused on Habit Forming Technologies, during which he showcased "Bloomie", an innovative artificial flower created by students. Bloomie is designed to help elderly people develop habits of increased physical activity by providing physical feedback: the flower opens up throughout the day based on the user’s level of movement.
Following this introduction, participants formed groups to discuss their habits and the challenges they face in developing them. This exercise led to the discussion of concepts for technologies that could assist in habit formation. Ideas ranged from solutions similar to Pokémon GO, which encourages physical activity, to a teddy bear that reminds users to go to bed in the evenings by giving subtle cues like pretending to fall asleep.
Joris also extended his thanks to Wiro Kuipers for the invitation and for organizing the event, which was a significant part of the event’s success.
Summer Schedule
The Interaction Lab will remain open during the upcoming break to support your ongoing projects and research. From the 8th of July until the 30th of August, we will be operating under holiday opening hours.
During this period, the lab will be available for equipment pick-ups and returns from 12:30 to 13:30 each weekday. Our technicians will also be on hand during these hours to assist you with any technical support or questions you may have.
Don’t Miss Out
