MOBEG: Monitoring en Beheer van Gebouwen voor een Smart Grid

DESCRIPTION

To be able to apply Demand Side Management, one requires detailed information of the power demand of each grid connected appliance. Thus, to balance the energy demand and energy supply within a smart grid using Demand Side Management this information is required. Within the MOBEG project, the University of Twente and Ipsum Energy will develop a new Energy Management System (EMS) based upon an innovative way to determine the electricity consumption within a building. The system determines the consumption of individual appliances from measurements taken at a single location. Furthermore, the EMS can determine the real-time feed-in of energy, from for example PV panels. Due to the real-time nature of the measurements, the system can actively balance consumption and production within the building or within a small neighbourhood around the building. Communication between the EMS and appliances allows for optimal control of the appliances.

The EMS system also allows the building user(s) to gain real-time insight in the electricity consumption. Ipsum Energy is currently also developing a service which influences the behaviour of building users to increase energy efficiency. This will allow the EMS to both balance supply and demand and decrease the total demand of energy within a building. First indications show that merely influencing building user behaviour can lead to up to 15% reduction in total electricity consumption within the building.
