In this assignment, we are looking into adopting consensus protocols from blockchain networks and using them to build a distributed implementation of the profile steering algorithm in a mesh network. Profile Steering is a decentralized demand-side management algorithm that is hierarchical in nature. We wish to investigate how protocols such as Proof of Work and Proof of Stake from blockchain networks can help us in eliminating that hierarchy. Our aim is to build an implementation of profile steering for micro-grids that is purely distributed and treats all nodes in a micro-grid network at equal decision-making hierarchy.
