Looking Forward to 2024
In February of 2023, the University of Twente celebrated the opening of the new Interaction Lab in the Citadel building. Over the past year, our lab has become a place where students and researchers can learn about and with technology. Now, stepping into 2024, we are getting ready for an exciting expansion with the introduction of the Sport Interaction Lab! With most of the area already in use, the final installation (the interactive climbing wall) is expected to be concluded at the end of February.
According to Dees Postma, Assistant Professor at the university and contact person for the Sport Interaction Lab, this dedicated space is where science, design, and sport meet. It offers a range of facilities to enable researchers to work on sport and movement-related issues. Besides advanced and state-of-the-art sensing and actuation equipment, the area offers an interactive, multi-person, Virtual Reality, rowing setup; a VR bike setup; and an interactive climbing wall. It also connects researchers with local partners from industry (e.g., Movella) and society (e.g., FC Twente) to create a lively infrastructure for research on sports and movement.
Located on the ground floor of the Citadel, the Sport Interaction Lab is envisioned as a place to research and design for an active society where movement is meaningful for all. The mission is to create a cohesive infrastructure to support the research and design of technology for sports and movement.
