Anti-virus fraud attempts

Criminals take advantage of the fear of malware infections.

Recently, spam has been sent with which criminals play on the fear of malware (ransomware, etc.) infections. They pose as a supplier of well-known anti-virus products. They also claim that subscriptions have expired or that messages are ready for the user. In all cases they use the standard method that the recipient of the mail must respond quickly. In this way they try to avoid thinking and push for immediately reactions. They hope that victims will transfer money for these so-called subscriptions.

For more information about ways criminals work and how to respond to them, see the university's awareness campaign at https://securityeducation.utwente.nl/.
