Emotet banking trojan

The Emotet Banking Trojan is spreading through The Netherlands by means of email messages.

The recipient is enticed to open a Word document and enable macros. The Trojan then downloads other malware including software that collects login credentials for banks.

Currently, the SURFmail filter, which is in use at the university, blocks all Emotet mail. There is no guarantee however that other mail providers will take the same measures. As always, be careful when opening attachments. Especially when asked to turn on macros.
