University of Twente supports the initiative to draw attention to climate issues

Scientists4Future NL initiated a consensus statement in support of the climate strike which took place in Den Haag on Friday 27 September 2019. The statement is still available for signing.

Several scientists from the UT already contributed to the drafting of this statement. It is good to see that UT staff members want to be among the leaders in initiating change for a more sustainable world. As University of Twente we support the initiative to draw attention to climate issues.

The UT considers sustainability as an important pillar of the future strategy of the university. In a new mission, vision and strategy for the next years, Shaping2030, the UT aims to empower society through sustainable solutions. The following is included in the draft vision: it is our mission to respond to societal needs by developing sustainable, proactive measures to support our planet and the people to which it is home. We consider sustainability to be a precondition for everything we do.

In our journey towards a new strategy for the coming years, the Executive Board requested a working group ‘Sustainable’ to explore what steps the University of Twente should take to realize the statement that sustainability is a requirement, a precondition in everything we do: in our operations, education, research, knowledge transfer and organization. The recommendations of this group will be included in the integral mission, vision and strategy of the university, to be finalized at the end of this year.
