CELT is at the forefront of emphasizing the social dimension of education, aligning seamlessly with the overarching vision of UT in championing social safety within Higher Education. Social safety, encapsulating the psychological sense of security fostered by one's social context in the realms of work and study, stands as a pivotal focus for our expert team.
Some of the key areas in the field of social safety in higher education include:
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I): CELT works closely with the DE&I community which constitutes a significant foundation of the University of Twente as part of the Shaping 2030 policy and strategic plan aiming at establishing an inclusive and embracing environment.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) refers to who is represented in the workforce. Some examples of diversity in workplaces include:
- Gender diversity
- Age diversity
- Ethnic & Cultural Diversity
- Physical ability and neurodiversity
2. Mental Health and Well-being: Aligned with the policies of the UT and with the collaboration of the Student Guidance & Well-being (SGW) department, CELT aspires to provide support with the integration of educational practices that emphasise the importance of mental health and well-being. In particular, for promoting mental wellbeing, CELT provides guidance in the following areas:
- Curriculum Infusion
- Embed Resources that promote work-life balance in specific disciplines
- Changes in the Curriculum
3. Bullying, Harassment Prevention & Crisis Intervention:
- Implementing anti-bullying and harassment policies.
- Conducting awareness campaigns and training to prevent and address such issues
- Development of early intervention strategies to identify and support students experiencing mental health challenges.
- Implementation of a collaborative approach involving faculty, staff, and peers in the intervention process.
