On 9 january 2026, the BMS Research Theme Learning and Research for Societal Transformation organises an interactive workshop, “Paving the way for impact pathways”.
The BMS research theme Learning and Research for Societal Transformation seeks to support researchers, practitioners, learners, and other professionals in research projects and processes intended to have a positive societal impact and be ethically sound (e.g., contributing to the SDG agenda). This involves developing the necessary skills and methods to understand, navigate, and manage the complex transition processes targeted by our research projects, as well as creating collaborative, transdisciplinary practices in which stakeholders engage in purpose-oriented, dialogic knowledge exchange. To support this goal, the BMS research theme offers a workshop to co-create a training programme that links methods, skills, and stakeholder engagement—so that knowledge turns into impact and practice. This workshop follows up on the kick-off workshop of the research theme in September 2025.
Title: Paving the way for impact pathways – A workshop to design training methods and skills in transdisciplinary collaboration to scaffold complex and challenging societal transitions
Date: 9 January 2026, 09:30–12:30, followed by lunch
Location: Citadel, T300 (Learning and Teaching Lab)
What: This workshop invites you to collaboratively design an outline of a training programme for professionals involved in complex and challenging societal transition processes. In the workshop, we will in particular explore how your expertise can contribute to these change processes in an impactful way.
Who is the workshop for? The workshop is open to all colleagues and practitioners at the University of Twente who would like to:
- Increase the societal impact of their research and education while exploring new avenues as researchers and educators,
- Put their expertise into practice,
- Learn and collaborate with societal stakeholders,
- Engage with real-world challenges and broaden their horizons.
How: Based on a real-world case from the Netherlands, we will conduct a design-based workshop in which we will collaboratively outline a training programme about training methods and skills for professionals.
Capacity: Please note that, due to the workshop design, we can enrol only 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Please sign up for the workshop before 5 January 2026.
Before the workshop: Join our pre-workshop webinar on Friday, 14 November 2025, 09:30–10:30. In the webinar, we introduce the case, walk through the programme, and answer your questions. If you are new to the topic, we recommend a short look at the the impact pathway approach and the KEM-agenda. The webinar link will be sent after you enroll.
