Philofilm screening of High Rise with UT philosophy professor Adam Henschke

The next Philofilm at Concordia Film Theatre will be UT philosophy professor Adam Henschke presenting Ben Wheatley's film High Rise:

Dr Laing (Hiddleston) moves to the 25th floor of a huge apartment building (the high-rise of the title) and finds that it is not so easy to make it to the top, 40th floor, where the very richest residents reside. Based on the novel of the same name by JG Ballard – who sees the building as a microcosm of class struggle – the story explores how technology shapes, directs and sometimes destroys our lives. In the film, Wheatley prefers to zoom in on the chaos that arises when that class struggle actually erupts. The discussion afterward will focus on how Ballard's work both mirrors and reflects on technology and society.
