Information procedure academic misconduct for student
If an examiner or invigilator notices motivated suspicion of academic misconduct before, during or after an exam, the examiner/invigilator makes a note of this on the student’s exam (test). The examiner/invigilator also notes the circumstances surrounding the i academic misconduct and fills out the form Notification of misconduct/ irregularities during an exam. This notification form is submitted to (the registry) of the Examination Board BMS.
If an examiner notices a motivated suspicion of plagiarism, the examiner will fill out the form Notification of Plagiarism and submits this notification form to the Registry of the examination board BMS.
Procedure
When the examination board receives the notification of suspicion of academic misconduct, the procedure is as follows:
- You are informed by the teacher/examiner on the academic misconduct detected;
- Subsequently, you receive a notification from the examination board informing you about the notification received from the teacher and the academic misconduct procedure;
- You will be invited for a meeting to give you the opportunity to share your view on the matter;
- After having heard both student(s) and teacher, the examination board will come to a decision and will inform you and all persons involved about the decision taken by the examination board and if applicable the sanction (penalty(s)) given.
The examination board realizes that if a student receives a notification of academic misconduct, this might be upsetting. We would however, like to stress that until all parties involved are heard, no decision is taken regarding whether academic misconduct has been proven or not.
Please note the following:
- The examiner/invigilator has the right to confiscate devices and other resources whose use is not permitted during an exam;
- You, the student, has the right to finish the exam;
- Specifically, and to ensure an equal treatment of all students, the examination board (and not the teacher) will investigate and decide whether fraud has been proven and if so, which penalty to put into place.
