All UT alumni have access to digital resources like the scientific database JSTOR and GoodHabitz professional training courses via the Alumni Portal. Graduates from February 1st 2026 onward can also choose to activate an email forwarding account (e.g. john.johnson@alumnus.utwente.nl)
Other alumni currently have access to a mailbox hosted on a dedicated server. Note that from October 2026, this service will stop with only email forwarding services being offered to all alumni. The following FAQ section has been created with more information about this transition.
How do I set up e-mail forwarding?
Forwarding allows incoming messages sent to your @alumnus.utwente.nl address to arrive automatically in your personal inbox (for example Gmail or Outlook.com).
Follow these steps to specify where messages will be forwarded:
1. Log in to the Alumni Portal.
2. Open the email section.
3. Enter the personal email address where you want to receive forwarded messages.
4. Save or enable forwarding.

Will I lose my alumni email address?
No. Your @alumnus.utwente.nl address remains active. What changes is where your emails are stored — from our server to your own device or personal account.

Can I still send messages from my alumni address?
Yes. We will continue to provide an outgoing mail service (SMTP) after October 2026, so you can keep sending email from your alumni address as before but using a different mail client like Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail, and Gmail. (Browse our manual for more information)

What happens to emails I already have in my mailbox?
Any emails currently stored on our server will become inaccessible after October 2026. If you want to keep them, you need to download or move them beforehand. This guide explains how.

What if I don't do anything before October 2026?
Your address will still work for sending, but emails remaining on our server will be removed and you will no longer be able to receive new messages without setting up forwarding first.
